Marine Ways
The Covey Heritage Marine Ways are a very special feature of our living museum, offering a unique glimpse into traditional boat maintenance and repair. We float boats onto a carriage and then haul them onto ‘the hard’ using a railway system. Haul-out and the work on the hulls—often vintage wooden boats in need of tender care—are fascinating to watch and an integral part of our maritime heritage.
The Covey Heritage Marine Ways were generously donated to the Maritime Centre by Ron Lindsay of Covey Marine. Ron, who built, owned, and operated the marine ways for 20 years in Cowichan Bay, Ron was a dedicated CWBS volunteer and local mariner. His donation, along with the support of dedicated volunteers and the generous contributions of local businesses, has allowed us to preserve this vital piece of maritime history.
Our marine ways are tide-dependent, meaning that haul-out and splash-down schedules are set according to favorable rising tides. Scheduling a haul out is entirely dependent on your boats draft, the tides and availibility, please inquire to book a haul out - time and tide wait for no man
